چکیده

DOI: 10.5935/abc.20140060 Demographic projections have shown that the contingent of elderly people in Brazil will double within the next 20 years1, with a consequent increase in the prevalence of aging-related diseases, such as degenerative aortic valve stenosis (AoS), diagnosed in 3% to 5% of the population older than 75 yeas2,3. New modalities of treatment for AoS have been recently developed, mainly represented by the transcatheter implantation of aortic prosthesis (TAVI – Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation), which has become a therapeutic option for patients whose conventional surgical treatment is not feasible. In the current scenario, characterized by the high demand of the increasing elderly population, the availability of new treatment methods provides clinical expertise for the accurate diagnosis of heart valve disease, assessment of the comorbidities and risks of interventions, in addition to the rationalization of resources, considering the complexity and high costs involved in TAVI.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement During Pregnancy.

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is an approved and widely accepted standard treatment for severe symptomatic aortic stenosis (AS) in high-risk surgical candidates. Severe symptomatic AS during pregnancy presents a difficult clinical challenge. A 22-year-old female patient presented to our service at 15 weeks’ gestation with congenital symptomatic AS. After a thoughtful heart team ...

Transcatheter and Doppler waveform correlation in transcatheter aortic valve replacement

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has become the preferred therapy for treatment of severe aortic stenosis in patients at intermediate to high risk of perioperative mortality following surgical aortic valve replacement. Haemodynamic assessment is an integral part of the procedure, and it is crucial for the operator to have an in-depth understanding of the haemodynamic alterations th...

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation: our experience and review of the literature.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation [TAVI] is widespread worldwide as an alternative therapy procedure to the patients suffering from severe aortic valve stenosis. However, we shouldn't forget that the conventional surgical aortic valve replacement is still the gold standard therapy for severe aortic valve stenosis. For the patients who cannot be treated conventionally because of high risk ...

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation was developed to offer a therapeutic solution to patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis who are not candidates for conventional aortic valve replacement. The improvement in transcatheter aortic valve implantation outcomes is still of concern in the areas of stroke, vascular injury, heart block, paravalvular regurgitation and valve durability. Co...

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: A Review Article

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a novel therapeutic intervention for the replacement of severely stenotic aortic valves in high-risk patients for standard surgical procedures. Since the initial PARTNER trial results, use of TAVR has been on the rise each year. New delivery methods and different valves have been developed and modified in order to promote the minimally invasive p...
